Jen Burks

Jen Burks was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. Jen's strong attention to detail and interest in film led her to study Production Design at Savannah College of Art and Design. After studying there for a year she realized that people are more important than places. She followed Savannah with photographic studies at the University of Louisville. Jen believes that traveling allows for expansion of the mind. On her first visit to NYC she was inspired by the creativity of street art and graffiti. The beauty of graffiti is that it always remains anonymous, rarely surviving for longer than a few weeks. The internet is a dynamic kinetic space for graffiti because it lives on through photography. Jen's objective is to explore the many different styles of graffiti art and create a database, to remind these artists that their work will never be forgotten. Jen is inspired by MARTHA COOPER, Blek Le Rat, Banksy, Miss Van, Swoon, Hera, Sam Flores, and the Flaming Lips. Each day she reminds herself that Gandhi said, “We must be the change we wish to see in the world,” and she attempts to live by that as best as she can.
