Kentucky Haiku
by Ron Whitehead
1
in Kentucky
always
I go too far
2
in Kentucky
I pass fast on
one lane bridges
3
in Kentucky
my skin turns
blue and I holler
4
in Kentucky
smoke the grass
sip the woman
5
in Kentucky
I take deadly
risks daily
6
in Kentucky
I won’t live
much longer
7
in Kentucky
I feel like
I’m finally dyin
8
in Kentucky
my Mom
is a prisoner
9
in Kentucky
my Dad
hoes tobacco
10
in Kentucky
I climb to top
of maple tree
11
in Kentucky
I wait for relatives
from Louisville
12
in Kentucky
I don’t go
to the Derby
13
in Kentucky
springtime lie down
in orange sagebrush
14
in Kentucky
with old Blue
watch white clouds
15
in Kentucky
I married
raven hair & turquoise
16
in Kentucky
my heart
is breaking
17
in Kentucky
moon shines
comets are loud
18
in Kentucky
music
is mountainous
19
in Kentucky
my body burns
on funeral pyre
20
in Kentucky
my life travels
round the world
21
in Kentucky
I am
no more
